The five, plus one
What UTM parameters actually are
Tags on the end of a URL that tell analytics where a visit came from — five standard ones, plus one for ad platforms.
One channel scattered across five rows — impossible to compare.
Everyone tags it facebook — one row that actually adds up.
utm_sourceRequiredSource
Where the traffic comes from — the specific site, app or newsletter.
newsletterutm_mediumRequiredMedium
The channel type that delivered the visit.
emailutm_campaignRecommendedCampaign
The specific campaign name the link belongs to.
spring_saleutm_termOptionalTerm
The paid keyword, used for search ads.
running_shoesutm_contentOptionalContent
Distinguishes variants — for A/B tests or multiple links to the same place.
hero_ctautm_idOptionalCampaign ID
An optional ID that links your data to Google Ads or Campaign Manager 360.
sale_2026_q2Source, medium and a campaign name are the essential trio. Google’s Campaign URL guidance has the canonical definitions.
Save once, reuse forever
Presets that keep a whole team consistent
Build a preset once and every teammate tags links the same way — no typos, no reports that split one channel into three.
Create & name once
Save a preset like “Weekly newsletter” with its source, medium and campaign filled in, then reuse it forever.
Search & filter
Find the right preset fast — filter by medium so the correct tags are one keystroke away.
Apply in one click
Attach a preset when you create or edit a link — no hand-typing, no typos, no mismatched casing.
Consistent across the workspace
Every teammate tags links the same way, so your reports add up instead of splitting one channel into three.
An honest caveat
A note on UTMs and SEO
Tag outbound and campaign links — never internal navigation. Internal UTMs fragment your analytics and create duplicate URLs.
Canonicals keep you safe
On the destination side, canonical tags keep tagged variants from causing duplicate-content issues — so a UTM-tagged campaign link and the clean page URL still count as one page. More in our UTM parameters explained glossary entry.
